In today’s digital world, information technology and data are at the center of our day-to-day lives. Whether you are browsing the internet on your smartphone, tracking your steps on a FitBit, watching Netflix or making a purchase online, there is a constant exchange of data. And these are just examples from your personal life. It’s hard to imagine a profession that doesn’t have at least one touch point with information technology or digital data. The insurance industry is no exception, holding a wealth of private data on millions of individuals and companies.
You know that feeling you get at the end of a conference? The energetic burst of inspiration and readiness to implement everything you learned into your everyday work? But then you get back to the office and unfortunately, allow other priorities to get in the way of implementing new learnings. While writing this blog and reflecting on my takeaways, I also thought about how we can make time for new learnings instead of putting them on the back burner. So in addition to the User Group highlights I shared in Part I and below, I'll also discuss how to keep the momentum going post conference. For now, let's dive back into highlights from the 2017 User Group.
Can you believe we just wrapped our 28th User Group?! More than 170 re/insurance professionals joined us in Arizona last week to connect, strategize, learn and soak up the sun. This year, we focused on providing attendees with the opportunity to fuel their strengths on an individual, team, organizational, and industry basis. The action-packed week included: Educational breakout sessions A panel of InsurTech experts And an exciting Keynote that led a finger fencing battle! (More on that later). I hope everyone left feeling energized, refreshed and ready to channel their takeaways into their daily routine. If you are in the realm of business, regardless of your field, you’ve more than likely read about, discussed or researched the topic of data and its impact on you. I know I have more than a handful of times! In our digitally driven world, the topic of data has been prominent over the past few years. Recently, I came across an article that, at least for me, discussed data with a fresh perspective. The author described data as a language that is used to tell stories – and not just in the business world but in everyday life. Running an upcoming marathon? The distance, your level of fitness and goal for time will inform the amount of training you need to do. Saving for retirement? Your standard of living, current income and family size are just some of the data that will inform how much you need to save annually. I could go on, but the point is, almost everything you do involves some kind of data that is used to tell a simple story. But so often in business we can get overwhelmed and caught up in data overload. This inspired me to think about how you can use data to tell a simple story about your business.
As a software provider, it is essential for TAI to stay up-to-date on the latest technology provided by the industry. We need to be far ahead of our clients in terms of technology adoption not only so that we can provide the adequate support for our products, but also think of new, innovative product ideas to bring to the market. If you haven’t already heard, Microsoft is ending support for Windows Server 2003 on July 14th, 2015. What does that mean for TAI clients? While your applications can still run on Server 2003, Microsoft will no longer issue security updates or provide technical assistance, which can leave you vulnerable to system attacks or incompatibility issues down the road.
