Everything's Bigger in Texas — and So Was TAI Summit 2026
After the highs of last year's landmark 40th Anniversary Summit in Chicago, I'll admit I had my doubts. How could Austin top that? Well, as it turns out, Austin had absolutely no interest in playing second fiddle. It delivered — and then some.
Before I go any further, a small but important note: you may have already noticed a subtle shift in the prose style of this year's Summit review. The previous incumbent has taken a well-earned bow, trading the corridors of the corporate world for fairways, greens, and — if the Golf gods are kind — as few bunkers as possible. More on that momentous occasion a little later.
Welcome to Austin — Live Music Capital of the World
If you've never been to Austin, Texas, put it on your list. It is, without question, one of America's most vibrant, characterful, and genuinely exciting cities. The state capital of Texas, home of the Longhorns, world-class BBQ, and what I'd argue is the most striking city skyline in the entire US. From the colony of 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats underneath Congress Avenue Bridge, to the glittering lake, the electric live music scene spilling from every doorway, and the joyful absurdity of line dancing in cowboy boots — Austin is a city that simply refuses to be dull.
My first impressions? The Texas sun hit me immediately (those of us from the UK don't take warmth for granted). Then came the BBQ. Then the lake, shimmering behind a gorgeous city skyline. And on my very first night, lying in my hotel room, I could hear live music reverberating off the windows from a nearby venue. I knew right then that Austin was going to be something special.
But of course, we weren't there just for the atmosphere. We were there for TAI Summit 2026..
Setting the Stage: Welcome Drinks on the Lawn
The event kicked off in the best possible fashion — a lawn welcome drinks reception, bathed in afternoon Texas sunshine. It was the perfect setting to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome clients attending their first Summit, and set the tone for two days of ideas, inspiration, and genuine connection. There is something about these opening moments at Summit that never gets old: the energy, the anticipation, and the sense that something meaningful is about to happen.
Brian Wilkinson: Setting the Agenda for 2026 and Beyond
Our CEO Brian Wilkinson opened proceedings with a keynote that was both a thoughtful reflection on where we find ourselves as an industry and a compelling call to action for what comes next.
Brian's central theme was one that will resonate with anyone operating in financial services today: volatility is no longer an exception — it is the norm. From geopolitical uncertainty to rapid technological disruption, 2025 and 2026 have tested organizations in ways few anticipated. And yet, as Brian was quick to remind the room, volatility and progress are not mutually exclusive. "Whilst there's volatility," he noted, "we cannot lose sight of the progress made by mankind." A timely and important perspective.
Against that backdrop, Brian addressed the defining technological shift of our era: AI moving from experimentation to mainstream adoption. The rise of agentic AI — systems capable of autonomous decision-making and action — is reshaping what's possible across our industry. But with that power comes responsibility. Brian spoke candidly about the rise of bad actors exploiting AI for deepfakes, phishing attacks, and sophisticated fraud. The message was clear: as an industry, we must think carefully and deliberately about the role AI plays in our operations.
TAI's response to this challenge was framed around a powerful concept: Design for Change. The organizations that will succeed are not those who fear disruption, but those who thoughtfully integrate AI into their businesses and allow modernization to happen incrementally — building resilience rather than dependency. Data access, Brian noted, is shifting from a purely technical concern to a trust concern. Our ambition is to give clients more confidence and more flexibility with their data, enabling sharper, more effective decision-making.
Brian closed with a moment that was both poignant and celebratory. He took time to honor the career and legacy of Brian Traxler, SVP of Business Development and Client Experience, who retired at the close of this year's Summit after a decade of exceptional service to TAI. Brian Traxler has been a constant presence and a defining voice at Summit for many years, and it would be remiss of me not to reflect on just what a tremendous contribution he has made — not just to TAI, but to the clients and relationships he has championed throughout his tenure. We wish him every happiness in this next chapter. (And yes — he is the one swapping boardrooms for back nines.)
Keynote #1 — Navigating Risk in an Uncertain World: Rachel Wilson
If Brian's keynote set the strategic context, Rachel Wilson's session took us deep into one of the most urgent and unsettling challenges facing organizations today: cybersecurity in the age of AI.
Rachel brings a truly remarkable perspective to this subject. Currently Managing Director and Chief Data Officer at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, she spent years as a Senior Executive at the National Security Agency. In other words, this is someone who has seen the full picture — and she shared it with us with remarkable candor and clarity.
Her central message: cybersecurity is not about perfection. It never has been. What matters is resilience, awareness, and intelligent preparation. She walked us through some extraordinary real-world examples — from the audacious Lazarus Group's orchestration of the Bangladesh Bank hack, to Iran-linked denial-of-service attacks — to illustrate just how sophisticated, organized, and well-resourced threat actors have become.
On AI specifically, Rachel outlined three sobering realities. First, AI lowers the barrier to entry for cyber attackers — tools that once required nation-state resources are now accessible to almost anyone. Second, AI capabilities are becoming a catalyst for cybercrime at a scale and velocity that traditional defences were never designed to withstand. Scope, scale, and speed — these are the three dimensions that make AI-enabled threats categorically different from anything we've faced before.
She also touched on the alarming rise of ransomware — including the brazen provision of ransomware-as-a-service — and the growing threat of quantum computing, with "Q-Day" (the point at which quantum computers become commoditised and render current encryption obsolete) drawing ever closer on the horizon. The global cost of cybercrime, Rachel noted, now stands at $10 trillion annually. Let that sink in.
It was a genuinely riveting and sobering session — the kind that leaves you walking away with both a sharper understanding of the threat landscape and a renewed sense of urgency to act.
Technology Strategy: Kaitlin Beasley, Chief Technology Officer
Our recently appointed CTO, Kaitlin Beasley, took to the stage to share TAI's technology roadmap — and it is an exciting one. Kaitlin outlined a clear and ambitious journey: moving from legacy architecture to a modern, scalable framework that delivers real flexibility and capability for our clients.
Key pillars of the strategy include continued investment in our flagship 4xx platform and the active development of our next-generation platform. The overarching philosophy is one I find genuinely compelling: modernise our technology to create flexibility for the client, rather than reliance on us. That distinction matters enormously. It speaks to a fundamental belief that our role is to empower, not to create dependency.
Kaitlin's session generated significant energy in the room, and rightly so. The roadmap is not just technically sound — it reflects a client-first philosophy that I believe will define TAI's trajectory in the years ahead.
Keynote #2 — The Confidence Cycle: Juan Bendana
Juan Bendana brought a completely different but equally powerful energy to Summit 2026. His session on the Confidence Cycle was one of those rare keynotes that manages to be both profoundly practical and genuinely inspiring.
Juan's premise is elegant: confidence isn't a personality trait — it's a skill. And like any skill, it can be developed, practiced, and strengthened. He outlined four key ingredients for building it:
1. Generate Energy. The energy you put into the world comes back to you. Increased energy drives positive outcomes — not just for you, but for the people around you.
2. Practice Courage. Move from the fear zone into the action zone. Courage, Juan reminded us, is not the absence of fear — it's choosing to act despite it.
3. Prioritise Progress. Find your 1% better every day. This one landed particularly hard for me. The idea that small, consistent improvements compound into transformational change is both intellectually compelling and deeply motivating. He also offered a deceptively simple but powerful habit shift: start your day with intention, not reaction — meaning, resist the urge to reach for your phone and dive into social media the moment you wake up. I've tried it. It works.
4. Go Beyond What's Possible. Ask yourself: what's the best choice I can make right now? What's the best version of myself in this moment? What am I truly capable of? These are questions worth sitting with.
Juan's session was a reminder that the human element — confidence, mindset, courage — is every bit as important as technical strategy. A fitting message for an industry in transformation.
Breakout Sessions: Hands-On, Collaborative, Future-Focused
Throughout the two days, we hosted nine breakout sessions designed to help clients get the most from the TAI platform — and to have a genuine say in where we go next.
Sessions ranged from hands-on experience labs where clients could test TAI's products first-hand (including our new cashflow product), to explorations of how AI orchestration can support reinsurance operations. We hosted roundtable discussions on reAdmin challenges and industry-wide threats, as well as a lively, collaborative session unlocking next-generation features for our future product set.
The energy in these breakouts was electric. Nothing focuses the mind quite like sitting alongside clients — hearing their challenges, testing ideas, and building solutions together. These sessions are a reminder of why Summit exists: not just to inform, but to collaborate.
Giving Back: Community Matters
In keeping with a tradition that means a great deal to me personally, Summit attendees took time away from the conference floor to give back to the local Austin community. Partnering with Network Volunteers, our delegation came together to pack over 900 food kits for families in need.
This kind of collective action is close to my heart. Amid all the talk of technology, strategy, and growth, it's important — essential, even — to take a reflective moment and remember our broader responsibility to the communities we operate in and around. Helping those who need our help isn't an add-on to what we do; it's a reflection of who we are. I'm incredibly proud of everyone who took part.
Evening Event: Antone's - Where Austin Came Alive
Summit 2026 closed in the best possible
way: an evening at Antone's, one of
Austin's most iconic and beloved music
venues. Intimate, vibrant, and utterly
alive — it was the perfect encapsulation
of everything that makes Austin special.
The evening had it all: incredible food, great drinks, line dancing (yes, really — and yes, it was as fun as it sounds), and two absolutely phenomenal live bands that had the dance floor buzzing from start to finish. But for me, one of the evening's real highlights was tucked away upstairs: a hands-on leather crafting station, where guests could create their own keepsake from the Summit. A genuinely brilliant and unique idea. The noise from all the hammering was something else entirely — but the results were worth it. A tangible, lasting memory of an unforgettable event.
See You in Charlotte: Summit 2027
As the evening drew to a close, we made the announcement that next year's Summit will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina. The beating heart of NASCAR, home of the Carolina Panthers, one of America's greenest cities, and — I have no doubt — a destination full of culinary surprises and Southern warmth.
I genuinely cannot wait to see what Summit 2027 brings. If Austin has taught us anything, it's that each year has the potential to be something truly special — provided you come with curiosity, openness, and a willingness to be surprised.
Thank you to everyone who made TAI Summit 2026 the experience it was: our clients, our partners, our speakers, and the entire TAI team who worked tirelessly to bring it all together. You made Austin unforgettable.
See you all in Charlotte!
